Truthwitch (The Witchlands, #1)Truthwitch by Susan Dennard

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The first book in the Witchlands series, TRUTHWITCH, is about two very different girls, a Truthwitch, Safiya – a hot headed fighter with one hell of a mouth – and a Threadwitch, Iseult, a mild mannered young woman with a chip on her shoulder and the strategizing power of an army General. These two woman are the stars of the show, getting into all kinds of mischief while they try to hide Safi’s secret (being a truthwitch).

When these two fighters get into trouble with a Bloodwitch (one scary-ass dude), they go on the run to avoid his blood magic tracking. Their flight leads them into all kinds of trouble as the Truce Summit between all nations begins and every foreign envoy has a agenda of their own.

Soon a foreign Prince joins the mix, a Windwitch with a temper. Merik is another point of view character with a great story of his own. He’s looking to trade with Dalmotti/Cartorra dom/domnas (estate owners) to get food for his country, which has been suffering incredibly since the war ended and the 20 year truce began.

Truthwitch took all my expectations, all my “oh this is definitely going to happen this ways”, and threw them out the window! Full of twists and turns, two AMAZING bad ass best friends, and a lot of action (my fav), Truthwitch was a STELLAR read! Honestly, I can’t recommend this book enough. I haven’t been this thoroughly impressed or awed by a book since Red Queen.

Susan Dennard does an amazing job of weaving a flawless story, combined with amazing world building that really makes you want to travel to the Witchlands and spend some time with Safi and Iseult. With four point of views, you’re never left lost or wanting to skip ahead to the next person’s perspective as something crazy is always going on in each story line.

If you love fantasy, especially new worlds, steampunk and/or magic, you will LOVE Truthwitch!
