The images that inspired Savages

Hello all!

Long time no see! It’s been a while since I updated or wrote anything on this website (as you may have guessed). Well, it’s been two weeks since the official launch of Savages and I am SO happy to say that it is doing great! As of this evening we’re closing on 300 sales (including pre-orders) and I am over the moon with gratitude!

So before I get started on some of the inspiration behind Savages, thank you. Seriously. Thank you to every one who’s been there during this launch, who bought the book, or who lended a retweet or share. You guys ROCK, and I am so grateful.

Now on to the pretty pictures! 😉 We both know that’s what you’re really here for.

**WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD.**

THE SCENERY

Would you ever guess this book takes place in a desert 98% of the time? No? Well I don’t know how I can be more clear about that. (lol jokes)

THE CHARACTERS

BREEN

The warrior. The mother. The survivor.

“I never lose.”

tumblr_inline_nh1wn0WEvZ1szuxi8

Breen is one hell of a woman. Stubborn. Strong. Cut-throat when she needs to be, but
rather awkward when it comes to just about anything not involving a blade.

tumblr_nufbnyEE1C1r8t4mjo9_250

She bears a striking resemblance to Khutulun of Netflix’s Marco Polo. Though Breen might look a bit different, her braids were definitely inspired by the warrior princess.

But whatever you do, it’s probably best to stay on her good side.

Never has she been so angry. Never had she wanted to kill so badly. Blood pumped through her veins and angry tears stung the back of her eyes.
“You will not hurt my family.

DRAKKONE

The lieutenant. The father. The savior.

“Why do you do this?”
“It’s the right thing to do.”

ed431462867f4aaff48fd1790ef23edc.jpg

Drakkone is probably the best man in the entire world. No joke. Not only does he put up with Breen’s crap, but he also… you know… saves her life. No big.

Enduring the loss of not only his country, but his family, Drakkone never falters, never fails, and never gives up.

“I told you I’d get you out of there.”

NINA

The gifted. The daughter. The innocent.

Honestly, Nina is probably the cutest little baby in existence (not biased at all), but for those of you who’ve read Haven, you know how her story goes. But Nina wasn’t always the powerful pre-teen. Once upon a time she was a toddler with intelligence beyond her years, and a gift she had yet to grasp.

“You and Daddy can [protect me]. I want to help them, Mumma. I want to help you.”

MISC

Lastly, these are just a few of the photos that inspired some of the streets of Seaburn, as well as the tents in the Delica Tribe.

Most of these photos came directly from google. I claim NO ownership over any of them, and am simply using them as inspiration. You can find any of these images via google.

Well, that’s it for the images I kept stored away. While I did spend a fair amount of time looking through images, most of what you see in the book came straight out of my head. Seaburn has been featured in two books now, and most of its story has been told. Though I have some short stories in mind for the future, I won’t reveal anymore than that for now!

The last novel in the Chronicles of Warshard will release in the fall, and we’ll be back to the six kingdoms for the majority of it!

I do hope you enjoyed this post! If you haven’t read Savages yet, you can grab a copy on any of these retailers:

Amazon – Kobo – iBooks – Barnes & Noble

Plus, read the first three chapters free right here on my blog! (Just look under the Chronicles of Warshard tab)

Thanks for reading, and I’ll see you guys again soon!

Stay classy internet!

Savages Cover Reveal

I’ve been absolutely DYING to share this with you guys! The cover has been finished for a few weeks now (because I suck at waiting to do things), and at last it’s time to share the cover for Savages with you all!

savages-cover

The cover was designed by myself! Incase you didn’t know, I have a design background, so making the covers for the Chronicles of Warshard has been a dream!

ABOUT SAVAGES

Ten years before Queen Kadia decimated the six kingdoms of Warshard, her interest lay in the unborn child of a Seaburn savage.

Daughter of Chief Ruin, Breen is one of the most fearsome warriors in the Southern Delica savages-cover-onlyTribe, but nothing can stop the Emperor from reaping the Savage Lands for soldiers.

When her village is attacked, Breen is taken from her home and her family to the Seaburn Academy, where southern savages are broken and chained into a life of service to the Empire. Through the beatings and torture, Drakkone, one of the few Seaburn-born soldiers, brings solace to her days and gives her hope for the future.

Once freed of the Academy dungeons, Breen is sentenced to daily training between her plots for escape. But one night of unexpected passion turns into a problem bigger than either of them could have imagined.

Breen and Drakkone must risk capture and flee the city or death might be a blessing compared to eternal imprisonment.

Fyre Cover Reveal

In case you aren’t subscribed to my newsletter – which let’s be real here, you should be – you might have missed something pretty spectacular yesterday.

Not only did I announce my coming publishing schedule for the next couple of months, but I also revealed the cover for my first ever short story collection: Fyre.

Fyre is a set of short stories in the Haven universe, not long before the book actually begins. But before I get into that, I suppose I should tell you what I’m publishing when, first.

NaNoWriMo 2016 – Week 4

Can’t believe NaNo is over and Christmas is just around the corner. I swear it seems like 2016 just started a few weeks ago.

Very proud to be a Nano-Winner this year, especially so early. How did everyone else do? Did you make it? Did something come up that you didn’t? No matter what, you did something this month. You started a BOOK. Not everyone can say they’ve done that, and not everyone is going to finish a book either. So I wish you the best of luck in finishing your book! There’s always NaNoFiMo next month, and I know I myself will be using it to finish my book as well!

NaNoWriMo 2016 – Week 3

Good afternoon everyone? How is Nano going?

NaNo week 3 is OVER, and I am officially a Nano-Winner! 😀 Could not be happier to be ahead of the game, especially after a lacklustre week of illness. Hit 50k Monday afternoon during my final co-hosting of live sprints with the Patchwork Press team! It was tons of fun, and got me over the finish line. I’m very grateful to everyone who stuck around for the extra sprint!

Denica’s Message (extended)

In chapter 2 of Haven, Haven’s mother returns with the news of her family’s demise on her lips. Though that scene was only written from Haven’s memory in the novel, I’ve rewritten it as it happened. Enjoy!

Denica’s Message

Haven was never meant to be Queen. She was always meant to live the life of a princess, happy, carefree and just a little bit spoiled. She’d spent nineteen years of her life that way, and didn’t know any different – that is until the war brewing to the West found her door. It was a beautiful summer afternoon when her blissful life shattered like glass.

Nanoprep: Character Worksheet (2016)

Hey guys! NaNoWriMo is almost here!! Can you even believe it?

I haven’t spent as much time Nanoprepping as I probably should have this year, given I was trying desperately to finish writing the Queen of Thieves before November. Somehow I finished it over a week early (woo!), so that’s giving me some extra time to figure out everything.

For this year’s Nano project, I’ll be writing the sequel to Haven, which is pretty exciting, let me tell yah. SAVAGES is going to be a fun, although very dark YA project, which actually kind of works since QoT was really dark too and I’m already in the mindset for that!

Top 5 NaNoprep Tips

Alright guys, it’s Nanoprep time.

Ready to get serious? Ready to get down and dirty with the nitty gritty details? I hope so!

Nanoprep is all about getting ready to commit yourself to 50k in November, which is by no means a small feat. You have to either write 1600 words a day, or choose your battles and write a LOT more than that to make it. It’s a ton of work, but it is SO worth it. So let’s go over my top 5 tips for your best Nanoprep yet!

NaNo Prep 2016

Hey guys!

It’s that time of year again. NaNoWriMo is right around the corner! Are you participating this year? I know I am! I’ve been dying to start the sequel to Haven, so what’s a better time to start than during NaNo when I HAVE to write 50 thousand words?! Though the task is daunting, I’m up for the challenge.

So, nanoers, if you’ve been following my blog for some time, you know I have lots of posts about NaNoWriMo. Let’s start with those:
